Timing Changes
Everything.

Two estates a few kilometres apart can produce entirely different teas depending on when the leaf is plucked. In Sri Lanka, these windows are known as "quality seasons", and they're central to how serious buyers source.

What Is a "Quality Season"?

A Short Window, A Different Tea

A quality season, sometimes called a flush, is a defined window during the year when a particular growing region produces tea of exceptional character, usually shaped by a shift in monsoon patterns, temperature or light. During these windows, the same tea bushes that produce a good everyday tea for most of the year can yield something markedly more refined: brighter, more aromatic, or more complex in the cup.

Because these windows are short and weather-dependent, seasonal teas are produced in limited quantities, which is part of what makes them sought after by blenders and connoisseurs alike.

Notable Seasonal Windows

When the Best
Teas Are Made.

01

Western High-Grown Quality Season

Roughly January to March: the period when Nuwara Eliya and Dimbula estates are known to produce some of their most refined, aromatic high-grown teas.

02

Eastern High-Grown Quality Season

Around July to September: the window most associated with prized Uva-region teas, known for a distinctive character shaped by the seasonal winds of that period.

03

Year-Round Lower-Elevation Production

Low-grown regions such as Ruhuna benefit from more consistent year-round growing conditions, supporting steady supply for everyday and blended tea programmes.

How CTPE Sources Around This

Planning Ahead, Season by Season

Our sourcing calendar is built around these seasonal windows. For partners who want a seasonal or limited-availability tea featured in their range, we plan inventory and blending schedules in advance, so the right leaf is on hand when the window opens, and your supply stays predictable even for a tea that's only made for a few weeks each year.
